What is fracking?
The process of drilling down into the earth before a mixture of high pressure water is directed at a rock to release gas inside.
What is injected into a rock?
water, sand and chemicals which allows the gas to flow out
What is a social drawback of fracking? (2)
Water contaminated - can’t drink
People have to move - House prices effected
What is an environmental drawback? (3)
Vegetation killed
50% cleaner than coal

What is an economic drawback? (2)
Created hotels with electricity - more jobs boost economy

With an ageing population and a lack of housing, the government is under pressure to meet new targets

What could fracking cause a threat to in the UK?
Wildlife, national parks such as the south downs at risk
