Q
Why do we get volcanoes in the DRC?

2
Q
Primary impacts
A
- 17 nearby villages were badly affected by the fast flowing lava, hundreds of homes, a school and three health care centres were destroyed
- Around ten people doied in a road traffic accident casued by poor evacuation, 4 prisoners died
3
Q
Secondary impacts

- Cholera spread due to poor hygeine in refugee camps

- Speed of the lava flow meant that 2/4 hospitals and the airport were completely destroyed
7
Q
How the development affected vulnerability?
A
- The DRC is an LIC, lack of investment in monitoring the eruption and volcanos
- Meant that warning signs were missed, no early evacuation
8
Q
How the education affected vulnerability?
A
- Lack of clear info and instructions displayed so people didnt know where to go
9
Q
How the response affected vulnerability?
A
- Immediate emergency responses were not as fast as they couldve been
- Many people lacked basic supplies to survive
10
Q
How the frequency affected vulnerability?
A
- Not erupted for a while, therefore there was a lack of people with living memory of what to do>more people that were unsure
