The form “പേരുള്ള” in ഞങ്ങൾ അഞ്ചു പേരുള്ള ഒരു കുടുംബമാണ്.
പേരുള്ള (pēruḷḷa): Relative participle meaning “having members.” Derived from പേർ (pēr) (members) + ഉള്ള (uḷḷa) (possessing).
Using ശേഷം as a postposition
- Temporal Context:
Indicates “after” in terms of time.
Example:
ബിരുദത്തിന് ശേഷം (birudathinu śēṣam) — “After the degree.”
Here, ശേഷം follows ബിരുദത്തിന് (for the degree) to indicate the time reference.
- Sequential Context:
Indicates “following” or “later.”
Example:
സിനിമയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം കഫേയില് പോയി. (cinimaykku śēṣam kaphēyil pōyi) — “After the movie, [we] went to the café.”
ഉള്ളവളാണ് in the sentence “കൂടാതെ, അവള് എല്ലാവരോടും ദയ ഉള്ളവളാണ്”
lit. “is a female person who has sth.”
Part of Speech: Compound verb phrase
Meaning: Is (a person) having (kindness)
Components:
ഉള്ള (uḷḷa): Possessing, having
വൾ (vaḷ): Feminine pronoun suffix, referring to “she”
ആണ് (āṇu): Copula verb, “is”
Function: Asserts the quality of possessing kindness.
Understanding ഉള്ള (uḷḷa) – “Having”
In Malayalam, ഉള്ള is similar to the concept of “having” or “possessing.” It acts like a relative participle that links the quality (or possession) to the person.
Comparison to German:
In German, you might say:
“Er ist ein Mann mit Freundlichkeit.”
(He is a man with kindness.)
In Malayalam, this is expressed as:
അദ്ദേഹം ദയ ഉള്ളവനാണ്. (adhēham daya uḷḷavanāṇu.)
Literal: “He is a person having kindness.”
Understanding വൻ (van) – “One Who”
The suffix -വൻ (-van) refers to a person who has or one who possesses a quality. It’s gender-specific:
വൻ (van) for masculine (he)
വൾ (vaḷ) for feminine (she)
വർ (var) for plural or general (they).
Comparison to German:
Consider the German phrase:
“Er ist ein freundlicher Mann.”
(He is a kind man.)
In Malayalam, this could be:
അദ്ദേഹം ദയയുള്ളവനാണ്. (adhēham dayayuḷḷavanāṇu.)
Literal: “He is a person having kindness.”
Practice Framework: Forming Malayalam Sentences
A. Start with a Subject:
അദ്ദേഹം (adhēham) = He
അവൾ (avaḷ) = She
അവർ (avar) = They
B. Add a Quality or Possession:
ദയ (daya) = Kindness
സൗഹാർദ്ദം (sauhārdam) = Harmony
മനസ്സു (manassu) = Heart/mind
C. Add the Structure:
ഉള്ളവൻ (uḷḷavan) = One who has (masculine)
ഉള്ളവൾ (uḷḷavaḷ) = One who has (feminine)
Example:
“He is a kind person.”
Subject: അദ്ദേഹം
Quality: ദയ
Structure: ഉള്ളവൻ ആണ്
അദ്ദേഹം ദയ ഉള്ളവനാണ്.
“She is a person with a good heart.”
Subject: അവൾ
Quality: നല്ല മനസ്സു
Structure: ഉള്ളവൾ ആണ്
അവൾ നല്ല മനസ്സുള്ളവളാണ്.
