What is schizophrenia?
a mental disorder characterised by disruption of COGNITIVE and EMOTIONAL functioning.
It effects perceptions, emotions and sense of self-> sufferers tend to have visual + auditory hallucinations

What is the DSM-V criteria for schizophrenia
(Criterion ABC)
Criterion A:
TWO or MORE symptoms of schizophrenia must be present OR one must be present consistently (e.g hallucinations/ delusions)
Criterion B:
One or more areas must be negative effected e.g work/interpersonal/self care
Criterion C:
Continuous signs of disturbance must be present for 6 months
What is type I schizophrenia
obvious positive symptoms of schizophrenia that appear after a STRESSFUL event
What is type II schizophrenia
this type of schizophrenia is gradual and takes years to form.
overtime sufferers may experience increased cognitive and psychological disturbance
