What is qualitative research?

A

Qualitative research is:

a. a research that involves the studied use and collection of a variety of empirical materials – case study, personal experience, introspective, life story, interview, observational, historical, international, and visual texts – that describe routine and problematic moments and meanings in individuals lives,
b. deploy a wide range of interconnected methods, hoping always to get a better fix on the subject matter at hand,
c. begins with assumptions and the use of interpretive / theoretical frameworks that inform the study of research problems addressing the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem, and
d. to study this problem, qualitative researchers use an emerging qualitative approach to inquiry, the collection of data in a natural setting sensitive to the people and places under study, and data analysis that is both inductive and deductive and establishes patterns or themes
