Who was John Snow? What did he do?
John Snow is considered the father of epidemiology. He carefully mapped cholera cases during an outbreak and found its source.
Who was Hippocrates?
He was the first to associate that the environment might cause sickness.
What’s a carrier?
A person or animal infected with a disease, but is healthy and can transmit it to others.
Who were Richard Doll and Andrew Hill? What did they do?
Richard Doll and Andrew Hill discovered that smoking was bad for you.
What is the definition of epidemiology?
The study of factors that influencing the occurrence, transmission, distribution, prevention & control of disease in a defined population.
What is an epidemiologist?
A public health scientist who’s responsible for carrying out all useful and effective activities needed for a successful epidemiology practice.
What is an endemic?
Is when a disease or pathogen is present in a population or region at all times.
What is an hyperendenic?
Is when is when an endemic is equally effecting all age groups of a population.
What is a holoendemic?
Is when an endemic is affecting most of the kids of a population. Instead of the adults.
What is a cluster?
An aggregation of cases in a closely grouped area occurring of a length of time and space regardless of number.
What is an outbreak?
More cases of a disease in an area and a group of people than expected over a period of time.
What is an epidemic?
An epidemic is when large numbers of people are affected over a large area.
What is a vector?
An animal that transmits a disease.
What is a formite?
An object that transmits an infectious agent.
What is risk?
The probability that someone will be affected by a disease.
