Enumerate the elements of Dance
Body, Action, Time, Space and Energy
Dance is an art and our body serve as the medium for creating lines and shapes in expressing our own masterpiece in dancing. What kind of element is this?
Body
Action takes place when the body started to move. What kind of element is this?

It refers to the duration of the whole performance?

Refers to the amount of force or effort being exerted?
Energy
All movements take place in space. This is an area where the dancers perform. What kind of element is this?

Body shape is balanced and practically identical or parrallel of both sides of the body.
Symmetrical
The shape on both sides of the body is not balanced and the movement is different from each other.
Asymmetrical
Examples of locomotor movements:
- Running
- Walking
- Leaping
- Hopping
- Skipping
- Galloping
Examples of non-locomotor movements:
- bending
- rotating
- extending
- twisting
- vibratory

What are the two kinds of space?
Personal space and General space

Determine the arm position:
both arms are RAISED FORWARD at chest level with palms facing downward
First position
Determine the arm position:
both arms are RAISED SIDEWARD with graceful curve. Palms facing upward at shoulder level.
Second position
Determine the arm position:
ONE ARM is RAISED UPWARD with palm facing downward while the other arm remains in SECOND position
Third position
Determine the arm position:
ONE ARM is RAISED FORWARD in a HALF CIRCLE at chest level while the other remains at THIRD position

BOTH arms are raised UPWARD over the head with palms facing DOWNWARD

Determine the feet position:
Heels are TOUCHING EACH OTHER and the toes are facing OUTWARD
First position

FEET APART. Balls and heels of the feet are completely separated

Determine the feet position:
Heel of one foot TOUCHES the INSTEP of the other foot.
Third position
Determine the feet position:
ONE foot are placed IN FRONT of the other foot separately. Heel of the front foot is ALIGNED with the big toe of the rear foot.

Determine the feet position:
Heel of front foot TOUCHES the BIG TOE of the REAR FOOT.
