The although of a state to govern itself or another state

To do what’s best for the citizens of the country, for the government to protect and ensure welfare of citizens
Anarchy
A state of lawless or political disorder due to the absence of governmental authority
Confederation
A alliance of independent states
Oligarchy
A small group of people having control of a country, organization or institute
Dictatorship
A government situation where one person makes all the rules and decisions without help or input
Bill of Rights
The first 10 amendments to the constitution that explains rights in relation to government
Separation of Powers
An act of vesting the legislative, executive, and judicial powers of a government in separate bodies
Civic Duties
A mandatory task or activity that most or all members of a society must complete
Executive Power
The ability to execute the laws
Judicial Power
Allows court to interpret the constitution and make laws and decisions
Checks and Balances
Provide each branch of government with individual power to check the other branches and prevent one branch from becoming to powerful
Federal
Division of power between central government and states
Democracy
A government in which supreme power lies in the people
Compromise
Make a deal between different parties where each party gives up part of their demand
Majority Rule
A group that had the most members had he power to make decisions
Minority Rights
Normal individuals rights of a group which are no in the majority (racial, ethical, religious)
Individual Freedom
The rights people to do or say things without government intervention.
Worth and Dignity
A basic worth or status that purportedly belongs to all person’s equally
Equality
The statement of being equal, especially in status,rights and opportunities
Federalist
A supporter of the federal government and federalism
Federalist papers
A collection of of essays, write ten in favor of the new constitution
Free Enterprise
Business activities not directly related to government but are defined by a set of legal rules
Articles of Confederation
Written document that established the functions of the national government

has a single legislative chamber or house

New Jersey Plan
Designed to protect the security and power of the small states by limiting each state to 1 vote in congress

The fact that the government in the U.S. is based off of the Constitution which is the supreme law of the land

A large formal meeting where representives/delegates discuss and act on something that is of common concern

Envisioned a powerful central government that could effectively manage economic polices and maintain order. He is a founding Father

Slave Trade Compromise
Prevented congress from banning the transatlantic slave trade until 1808. Giving southern states a temporary assurance regarding labor supply.

Known as the great compromise that each state would receive 1 representative from every 30,000 people that lived in that state
