lesson 1 Flashcards
Energy
The ability to do work. Energy can be converted from one form to another
Electricity
The flow of electrical power or charge
Mechanical Energy
Energy produced by mechanical devices, such as gears, pulleys, levers, or engines
Radiant Energy
Energy visible to the eye
Chemical Energy
potential energy released when a chemical reaction occurs
Electrical Energy
Energy associated with the flow of electrons
Thermal Energy
Energy created by frictions between vibrating atoms and molecules
Non-Renewable Energy
A resource that cannot be replaced once used
Renewable Energy:
A resource that can be replaced when needed
Exhaustible
Any source of energy that is limited and cannot be replaced when it is used, such as an oil, coal, gas
Inexhaustible:
An energy source that will run out
Fossil Fuel
Natural fuel such as coal/gas formed in the geologic past from the remains of living organisms
Work formula
Force x Distance (joules)
Power Formula
work/time (watt)
Force formula
mass x acceleration (newtons)
