LESSON 1 Flashcards
What is Histology?
Is the study of tissues, their functions and arrangement to constitute an organ.
What is Histology also known as?
Microscopic anatomy
What is a Tissue?
A tissue is a group of cells WITH INTERRELATED FUNCTION, not just GROUP OF CELLS.
Cells in the tissue does not need to be the same what?
same type or same morphology.
4 Basic Types of Tissue
- Epithelial
- Connective
- Muscle
- Nervous
What is the function of the Epithelial Tissue?
to provide protection, and functions for absorption, and secretion
Why is there no blood supply in the epithelium?
because the cells in the epithelium are tightly packed
What type of tissues are AVASCULAR?
Epithelial tissues
What type of tissues are AVASCULAR?
Epithelial tissues
What is the function of the Connective tissue?
provides blood supply to the epithelium and links it to other tissues
What is the function of the Muscle Tissue
provide movement of tissue
What is the function of the Nervous Tissue?
provides sensation, control, and information processing
Fibers and Ground substances are referred to as ?
EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX
Complete the equation:
Tissue = _____ + ______
cells + extracellular matrix
The extra cellular matrix is composed of many kinds of (2)
Ground Substance and fibers
