Leptons Flashcards
What is the law of lepton conservation?
Lepton number before must equal lepton number after.
What is the definition of an anti-particle?
A particle with the same mass, and opposite charge as its corresponding particle.
Which is heavier, a proton or neutron?
A neutron is slightly heavier.
Which is the most stable, a proton, or a neutron?
The proton is the most stable barion.
Which is lighter, the up quark or down quark?
The up quark is slightly lighter.
What does a neutron decay into, and via what type of decay?
It decays into a proton, an electron (Beta particle) and an anti electron-neutrino.
It decays via beta emission.
Which quark decays in a neutron to turn it to a proton?
One of the down quarks decays into an up quark.
What is a neutrino?
A neutrino is a particle with no charge, and a very small mass, but with a lepton number. They are the most abundant particles in the universe.
When are neutrino’s produced?
They are produced every time fusion or fission occurs.
What family of particle is a neutrino?
It is a fermion
What are the conditions for electron lepton numbers?
Le = 1 for electrons and electron neutrinos (-1 for anti-particles)
Le = 0 for all other particles.
