Lenses Flashcards
1
Q
What is Spherical Aberration?
A
- When only parallel light rays that are close to the principal axis converge at F (focal point)
- Parallel light rays that hit areas near the edges DON’T converge at F
ONLY SEEN with THICK LENSES
2
Q
What is Chromatic Aberration?
A
When white light disperses into colours (lens acts as a prism).
Aberrations can be corrected by combining many lenses together or using thinner lenses.
3
Q
What type of lens are converging lenses?
A
- Thicker across the middle
- Thinner at its edges
- Converges light
4
Q
What type of lens are diverging lenses?
A
- Thinner across the middle
- Thicker at its edges
- Diverges light
5
Q
What does the position of the focal point depend on?
A
The position of the focal point depends on the index of refraction and curvature of the lens.
6
Q
What is a lens?
A
It’s a transparent object (with at least 1 curved side) that causes light to refract.
