Lenses Flashcards
What are lenses
Glass objects that magnify the stuff you see through
What do we use lenses for
To magnify things that are too close or too far away to be seen
How do lenses affect light passing through them
lenses curve light rays passing through them
A real image
an imager that can be projected on to a screen
a virtual image
an image that appears to come from behind a lens
How do different types of lens form images
A lens refracts/bends light and forms and image.
what is an image
copy of an object formed by the refraction/reflection of visible light
How do we control the refraction of light
the more curved the surface of a lens is, the more it refracts the light that passes through it
Convex lens
Converging lens directing parallel beams to a point
Concave lens
Diverging lens directs beam outwards as if they are coming from a point
Power
thickness of lens and bending of light wave
Power and focal length are inversely proportional
Equation for power
1/focal length
