All Leninist Union Young Communist League - the youth division of the communist party
Discouraged smoking, drinking and religion
Volunteer social work and political discussion was encouraged to inspire socialist values
Was the Komsomol successful in the first stages?
Only 6% of eligible youth joined - it wasn’t until the Stalinist era that that the organisation began to have a more influential role
The Komonsolskaia published a youth newspaper. What did it encourage?
Encouraged young people to protect family values and respect their parents
Why could it be argued that there were some youth opposition groups?
Some young people became involved in western culture such as jazz, fashion and cinema - despite the regimes condemnation of such influences
