Why does a balance have to be established in a person’s life?
Because there is a certain amount of time when a person has to sleep, eat and maintain good hygiene. There will also be a working period involving a job or school
What is active leisure?
This includes taking part in activities that involve exertion of physical or mental energy, and can often include low-impact physical activities (which expend little energy and have little contact or competition)
What are some examples of low-impact physical activities?
- yoga

What is passive leisure?
This includes activities such as those in which a person does not exert any significant physical or mental energy
What are some examples of passive leisure?
- going to the cinema
- watching television
- playing video games
Why does passive leisure cause the most concern among many experts?
Because it is thought that many activities do not provide the benefits offered by active leisure activities
What do many people say in response to the concerns of experts about passive leisure?
They claim that passive leisure time is when they are relaxing the most
Why is there quite a lot of competition within the leisure industry to come up with popular provision?
Because people now have more leisure time at their disposal
What leisure services of the local authorities provide in their legal responsibility to do so?
- libraries
- swimming pools
- playing fields
- sports centres
What are private enterprises?
A privately owned business not regulated in the same way as a state-owned organisation
What do private enterprises do?
They run a variety of sports-related facilities, but these only operate if a profit can be made and if there is sufficient demand
How can location influence a person’s choices for their leisure time?
Rural areas generally have less provision than urban areas
What is leisure time?
This is quite simply the time when a person can choose what they do (the time left over after everyday needs and school / work)
