JUSTIFICATION
CYPA protects children and young persons against abuse, neglect and exploitation. It defines children as those under the age of 14 years , and young persons as those aged 14 years and below 16 years.
PROVISION
Under the CYPA, an act of child abuse, neglect or behaviours that potentially expose the child or young person to abuse and neglect are offences punishable under the law. Penalties include fines not axceeding $4,000, imprisonment of up to 4 years, or both.
The court can order the child or young person concerned, and/or the parent/guarddian to undergo counselling, psychotherapy, other assessments and treatments to aim to resolve any parent-child relationship problems.
Prohibits the media from disclosing any information relating to any court proceedings that will lead to the identification of any child or young person who is involved in the proceedings to protect them from undue public attention and media glare.

JUSTIFICATION
Protects people against family violence. Victims of family violence may not be limited to children or young persons and hence not protected by the CYPA. The protection under the Woman’s Charter is accorded to all who are vulnerable, regardless of age and gender.
PROVISIONS
This legislation enables the Court to issue a Personal Protection Order in situations where violence has occurred or is likely to occur.
The Women’s Charter empowers the Court to mandate perpetrators, victims and other family members to attend counselling to support and protect victims from violence.
