People stored files using paper and in drawers, then computers came around and that was used instead and made it easier to steal information.

- Personal data can only be held for specified and lawful purposes.
- The personal data should be accurate and kept up to date.
- Personal data should be obtained and processed fairly and lawfully.
What is the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act? (1980)
For an owners work in a company be copyrighted for their use only and for someone who has asked permission to do so.

What is the Computer Misuse Act? (1990)
There was no legislation in place to tackle the problems caused by hacking, Everyone knew it was wrong but nobody could do anything about it. As the problem grew, three laws were placed in for the hacking problem.

- Unauthorised access to computer material.
- Unauthorised access with intent to commit or facilitate a crime.
- Unauthorised modification of computer material.

There are various health problems associated with the regular use of computers, such as stress, eyestrain and injuries to the neck, wrist and back.

- Provide foot supports.
- Provide tilt able screens.
- Make sure lighting is suitable.
What is the electronic Communications Act? (2000)
The main purpose of the legislation is to help build confidence in electronic commerce and the technology that is being used for it.
What is the Health & Safety Regulations Act? (1992)
To comply with the law an organisation must provide:
- provide eye tests
- Training, information and instructions.
- Workstation assessments.
