Define CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS
Consumer protection laws are put in place to protect consumers from firms in regards to the quality of the products and services sold. Examples:
- Consumer Rights Act ensures that all products are as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality
- Consumer Protection Act makes sure that businesses are liable for any costs as a result of any faulty or damaged products
Define EMPLOYEE PROTECTION LAWS
Employee protection laws aim to safeguard employee’s rights in the workplace. There are two different categories: individual labour laws and industrial relations laws
Give examples of individual labour laws
Equal pay act, sex descrimination act, race relations act, disability discrimination act, working time regulatons, nation minimum wage act
Give examples of industrial relations laws
Employment act, Trade union act, Trade union reform act, Employment relations act
Define ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION LAWS
Environmental protection laws are laws that help to ensure firms do not have a negative impact on the environment.
Define COMPETITION POLICY
Competition policy is both British and European. It prohibits agreements, arrangements and business practices which prevent, restrict or distort competition (or have the intention of doing so) e.g. agreeing prices with competitors in order to drive a rival out of the market.
What are examples of environmental protection laws?
Environmental protection act - ensures that firms continuously improve the control over pollution from any business activities
Environment act - states that firms must clean up any contaminated sites that it owns
