Equality Act 2010
Not everyone should get identical treatment but all must result in same outcome. Women can breastfeed in public, harassment on any ground is illegal. Protected characteristics are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion, pregnancy and maternity, sex or sexual orientation.
Human rights act 1998
Everyone is entitled to freedom and opinions without discrimination. Right to life, freedom of torture, to be free from slavery, to liberty, freedom of thought, conscience and religion, freedom of expression, to a fair trial, to no punishment, freedom of assembly.
Care act 2014
Reviews must be carried out when someone with care and support needs dies of abuse. Safeguarding boards set up. Enquiries must be made when they think an adult with care and support needs may be at risk of abuse.
Public interest disclosure act 1998
Whistleblowers cannot be abused. Whistleblowers cannot be sacked or disciplined for reporting suspected abuse. They can’t be bullied, attacked or harassed for it.
Health and Social care act 2008
Was set up due to too much abuse happening. CQC was set up. Regular inspections and responds to complaints. More money for better reputation.
Children Act 2004
Children have a voice in parliament. “Every child matters” they should all be healthy, safe, enjoy, achieve, have economic well-being and make a positive contribution. Child takes priority. Children must be spoken to individually. Concerns must be shared with other agencies.
General Data Protection Act 2018
Data must be kept safe and secure. Should only be used for reason it was collected. Must be kept up to date. Everyone is entitled to see what info a company has on them. Data must be kept no longer than necessary.
Mental capacity act 2005
Must empower service users so they have a voice. Must assume they can talk for themselves on some things. Must support them so they can make their own decisions. Must act in the best interests of people. Must not make decisions that restrict their rights.
Rehabilitation of offenders act 1974
If someone has been in prison, they cannot be abused or discriminated against. They also must receive childcare, education, social and healthcare. (For everyone except people who work with vulnerable groups)
Safeguarding vulnerable groups act 2006
If someone is a known risk of harm, they will not be allowed to enter certain workplaces.
