Physical abuse
Involves intentionally inflicting pain or injury on someone.
Institutional abuse
Involves the mistreatment, abuse or neglect caused when the rules in a setting override the needs or preferences of someone.
Abuse
Involves the violation of an individuals human and civil rights by another person. It. And be intentional or unintentional and results in causing someone harm.
Sexual abuse
When a child or adult is forced or persuaded to take part in sexual activities. May be physical contact or unwanted sexual contact.
Bullying
A form of abuse that involves harming an individual repeatedly either physically and/or emotionally.
Exploitation/Mate crime
When an individual is taken advantage of or harmed by someone who they thought was their friend and they become a target due to vulnerability.
Emotional/pyschological abuse
Results in harm to someone’s emotional/mental health causing low self-esteem and anxiety.
Neglect
Involves the failure to meet a child or adults basic needs such as failure to meet medical needs.
Discriminatory abuse
Oppressive and discriminatory attitudes such as deliberate exclusion of someone due to their race/sexual orientation.
Financial abuse
Results in the unauthorised improper use of funds, property or any resources of someone.
Safeguarding
Protecting people from harm.

A feeling that you experience (pain, anger, loneliness)
Signs
Things that others can see (bruises, change of mood)
