Solicitors
-Provide legal aid, negotiate on behalf, some advocacy work, draw up contracts, draft wills and take witness statements
-Some rights to advocacy (need certification)
Qualifications and Training of Solicitors
- Three year law degree followed by SQE over one year or two year part time
- Non law degree, GDL then SQE
Regulation Of Solicitors
- Report to firm, 28 days to respond
- SRA can fine, reprimand or suspend, solicitors disciplinary tribunal = strike
- Appeal to legal ombudsman
Barristers
-Work out of chambers, advocacy, experts opinions on law, write opinions, give advice, draft complex documents
-Full rights to audience (advocacy work in superior courts)
- Become part of the KBD after 10 years
Qualifications and Training Of Barristers
- Three year law degree, Bar Course Aptitude test, Bar Professional Training course over a year or two part time
- Non law degree, followed by GDL, a one year conversion course, followed by BCAT and BPTC
Regulations Of Barristers
- Complaint to chambers, 28 days to reply
- Bar standards board, disciplinary tribunal
- Bar tribunal
Legal Executives
-Provide legal aid, negotiate on clients behalf, do some advocacy work, draw up contracts, draft wills and take witness statements
-Have no rights to audience unless they have an advocacy certificate

- Complaint sent to firm, 28 day to respond
- Charted Institution of Legal exec
