Charter of Aged Care Rights
The Charter of Aged Care Rights (the Charter) sets out the rights of all people receiving Government-subsidised aged care services.
Human Rights
Upholding residents’ fundamental rights, as outlined in the Charter of Aged Care Rights, including the right to dignity, safety, and quality care, free from discrimination and abuse.
Policy and Procedure
Policies are broad guidelines or principles, while procedures are the specific, step-by-step instructions on how to implement those policies.
Aged Care Act
The main law that covers government-funded aged care. It sets out rules for things like funding, regulation, approval of providers, quality of care and the rights of people receiving care
Aged Care Quality Standards
The Aged Care Quality Standards (the Quality Standards) ensure that the care and services a provider delivers are safe, high quality, and
meet the needs and preferences of the people under their care.
Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission
Responsible for regulating and overseeing aged care services in Australia. The ACQSC’s mission is to protect and improve the safety, health, and wellbeing of people who use aged care services.
Privacy and Confidentiality
Privacy relates to personal information and the right to control its use, while confidentiality is the obligation to keep information secret, often within a specific relationship or context.
Discrimination Act
Unlawful to discriminate on the basis of a number of protected attributes including age, disability, race, sex, intersex status, gender identity and sexual orientation in certain areas of public life, including education and employment.
Work Health and Safety Act
Provide for a balanced and nationally consistent framework to secure the health and safety of workers and workplaces.
Equality Act
Legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society.
