Duty of Care
The duty of care is a legal and ethical obligation for providers and staff to ensure residents receive safe, appropriate, and high-quality care, protecting them from harm and upholding their rights and well-being.
Duty of Risk
Refers to the legal and ethical obligation to protect residents from harm while also respecting their autonomy and right to make choices, even if those choices involve some level of risk.
Manual Handling
Manual handling refers to any physical activity where a person uses their body to lift, lower, push, pull, hold, or restrain something, including another person, to assist with daily tasks.
Communication
The effective exchange of information and understanding between residents, their families, carers, and healthcare professionals, ensuring safe, person-centered care.
Body Language
Body language, or non-verbal communication, involves using gestures, facial expressions, posture, and eye contact to convey messages and build connections with residents, often supplementing or surpassing verbal communication.
Restrictive practices
Restrictive practice in aged care is any action that limits a personโs freedom of movement or rights. Restrictive practices can include physical restraints, environmental restraints, and medication.
Person Centred Care
Person-centered care focuses on respecting the individualโs needs, preferences, and values, treating them as a whole person, and involving them in decisions about their care to promote dignity, independence, and quality of life.
Dignity of Risk
Acknowledges an individualโs right to make choices, even if those choices involve potential risks, supporting self-determination and promoting autonomy
