unequal and unfair social structure
What are the 3 main policies to reduce crime?
policies to reduce inequality, Democratic policing, and A multi-agency approach

major structural changes to tackle discrimination, inequality of opportunity and unfairness of rewards and to provide good jobs and housing for all, reduce relative deprivation which is the main cause of crime
What is Democratic policing?
police are losing public support especially in poorer areas.
flow of information dries up so have to rely on military policing such as stop and searches which creates further loss of cooperation meaning they cannot tackle crime effectively
What should the police do to win back public support?
involve local communities in deicing their priorities, must focus on crimes that victimize the disadvantaged such as domestic violence and hate crimes
What was the success for left realist policing policies?
PCSOs have bee introduced to build better relationships with communities, many forces now make cannabis possession a low priority and domestic violence and hate crime are now a higher priority
What is a multi-agency approach?
crime control must involve many other agencies apart from the police
What is an example of a multi-agency?
No Knives Better Lives: joined up approach aimed at reducing knife crime, involves wide range of agencies such as schools and local councils leisure
What were the new Labour policies?
aimed to be ‘tough on the causes of crime’ invested in improvements to deprived neighborhoods through the communities that care programme
