decriminalising minor offences would be many fewer young people are labelled as criminals(possession of cannabis)

What do diversion policies aim to do?

A

keep an offender out of the justice system so as to avoid labelling them as criminals, some are informal when police use their discretion nit to charge someone, others are formal like requiring an offender to attend an anger management programme to avoid prosecution

A

where both the crime and the criminal are labelled as bad and the offender is excluded from society, this can push them into secondary deviance

A
