LEED AP ID+C: Materials and Resources Flashcards
MR Prerequisite 1 requirements
provide an easily accessible area for the storage of materials for recycling for the tenant space. Must include paper, corrugated cardboard, glass, plastics, and metals.
MR Prerequisite 1 Calculations and Documentation
No calculations requried. Recycling area size should be adequate for building size. Prepare floor and site plans highlighting recycling storage areas. Obtain a letter from landlord outlining building’s recycling program.
Define: Source Reduction
reduction of unnecessary material brought into a building, ex: purchasing products with less packaging.
Define: Tipping Fee
fees charged by landfill for disposal of waste, typically quoted per ton.
MR Credit 1 Requirements
Maintain at least 40% - 60% by area of the existing non-shell, nonstructural components. 40% = 1 point 60% = 2 points
MR Credit 1 Quantities of finished areas
Finished ceilings and flooring: use square footage
Walls: finished area between floor and ceiling
Interior wall partitions and doors: count area of both sides
Exterior and party walls: Count 1 side
Exterior windows and exterior doors: subtract their area from both the prior condition and completed design tallies
Built in case goods: determine the finished area
Define: Prior Condition
the state of the project space at the time it was selected
Define: Completed design area
total area of finished ceilings, floors, full-height walls and demountable partitions, interior doors, and built in case goods in the completed project. Does not include exterior windows and doors.
Define: Interior non-structural components reuse
determined by dividing the total area (sf) of retained components by the larger of (1) the area of the prior condition or (2) the area of the completed design
Define: Retained components
portions of the finished ceilings, finished floors, full-height walls and demountable partitions, interior doors, and built-in case goods that existed in the prior condition area and remain in the completed design.
MR Credit 1: Exemplary Performance
Can be attained by reusing 80% or more of existing walls, flooring, and ceiling systems
MR Credit 2: Requirements
Recycle or salvage nonhazardous construction and demolition debris. Develop and implement construction waste management plan that identifies materials to be diverted form disposal and whether materials will be sorted on-site or commingled. 50% = 1 point 75% = 2 points Exemplary Performance= 95% or more
MR Credit 2: Calculations
material diverted (separated by type) expressed in weight or volume divided by total project waste
MR Credit 2: Documentation
Obtain and maintain verification records to confirm that the diverted materials have been recycled or salvaged.
MR Credit 2: Waste Management Plan
Should identify, at minimum, diversion goals, relevant construction debris and materials to be diverted, implementation protocols, and parties responsible for implementing the plan.
