What are the communication contexts? Give a short overview on each of them:

  • Intra: involves one person.
  • Inter: Involves two persons. It ranges from personal/intimate to impersonal/formal.
  • Group: Involves generally 3 to 8 people. Larger groups create subgroups and it can have an intimacy range.
  • Public: One person to a large group and the dynamics differ.
  • Mass: Sending messages to a larger group. Not necessary to know members.

Intrinsic bias is the way one sees the world. It gives to each one of us an unique context which can complicate shared meaning since one has its own filters.

  • Source: The one who sends the message.
  • Message: the stimulus or meaning produced by the source for the receiver/audience.
  • Channel: The way in which the message travels.
  • Receiver: The one who receives the message from the source.
  • Feedback: Response from the receiver to the source.
  • Environment: the where of the exchange.
  • Context: Setting, scene and expectations of participants?
  • Interference: Anything that blocks or changes the source´s intended meaning of message.
