What is primary nursing and whats its advantage? (models of care)
Primary nursing care is when you have one nurse, with their patients and they solely look after them. In charge of their documentation, if they call you go.
Nice for the patient to have the same person/ build a relationship. Allows nurses to have excellent knowledge about patients
What is task-oriented care and whats its advantage? (Models of care)
Someone does the showers, someone does the meds. Allocated tasks
Utilises HC professional’s strengths and weaknesses. Orientates tasks to skill level.
What is team nursing and whats its advantage? (Models of care)
Knows a little bit of everyone in their area. Small groups see what everyone will do in the morning.
More eyes so better chance for early detection of deterioration/ disease, etc
What are student expectations when going into placement?
Pre-researched the area of placement and relevant information.
Arrive early
Take advantage of all learning opportunities
Communicate smart goals
Ask for feedback
Whats a preceptor (5 points)

Why do nurses use clinical reasoning and what does it involve?
- Clinical reasoning is how nurses make sense of and respond to information
- Involves judgement and action
- ‘Internal dialogue before, during and after patient care’
- Develops over a lifetime (‘Novice to expert’)
When do nurses use Clinical reasoning ?
- Selecting an appropriate wound dressing
- Distracting a distressed child going to Theatre
- Working out whether your patient has fainted or something more serious
- Vaccinating a person who needs a low sensory environment
A good Preceptor will articulate their thought processes
