What Arabian religion impacted Europe?
Islam a monotheist religion, founded in Arabia by the prophet Muhammad
What are Islam followers known as and what does Islam mean?
The followers are known as Muslims and Islam means submission
Muhammad:
An orphan taken in by family of modest, meaning region of Arabia.
His youth, he worked as a merchant assistant in trade, he didn’t like materialism/paganism that he saw by Arabians in Mecca
Age 25 he married a wealthy widow from Mecca and became an activist on behalf of the poor and needy in Mecca
He had a deep religious experience
What was the religious experience Muhammad experienced?
He received revelations from Gabriel, the angel, revelations contained God‘s words to Mohammed
What was the basic message received by Gabriel to Muhammad?
All Arabs should submit to God will
What is the sacred text of the Islam religion and when was it written?
The sacred text is Quran, and it was written after the death of Muhammad

Mecca is a holy sight in Arabia
Where was Mohammed forced out of and where did he go?
Muhammad was forced out of Mecca going to Medina in the south where he used his army to harass pilgrims going to Mecca and enter the trade eventually took over Mecca
How did the division of Islamic occur?
In the seventh century, I dispute over succession to Mohammed arose splitting Islam into three fractions
What were the divisions Islam split into?
Kharjites - most radical of groups wanted all but most righteous, Muslim separated from a religion
Shia - claim direct connection to Muhammed, the express wheel of profit located in Iraq/Iran
Sunnis - tradition with loyalty to Islamic community overall else they are all over the world
How are Islamic empires created?
Through conquest

The last quarter of the ninth century, first half of the 10th century referred to as dark ages in Europe because of turbulence of the time, experienced a wave of invasions from all directions
