How was it during the middle ages?

A

During the middle ages, there was a lack of structure in Europe, no effective government, threat of famine, disease and constant invasions from external forces. People did the best they could to survive the best way they could.

A

The social, political, economic, and military system in which the week sought protection from the strong

What is the Freedman predicament?

A

Poor freedmen (without families) place themselves under the service of more powerful Friedman for protection they were known as vassals
The more powerful Friedman built armies with the support and service of the less powerful they were known as magnets or lords

What were the arrangements between magnets/lords and vassals?

A

The magnets granted land two vassals and offered them protection through castles, as an advocate for their vassals, and would perform monetary payment on occasions
Vessels were required to swear fealty, promise not to be a threat to the Lords well-being, provide military services, pay ransoms monies of lord need extra money, had to gift the Lord’s daughter when got married

What was the daily life of vassals and what about classes vassals had

A

Vassals worked on village farms called manors for lords who allotted land, vassals had lower classes -peasants- do the work on the farms, lowest of peasant were serfs, in exchange for their service they would receive portions of the crops they cultivated

One man could become vassal for more than one, but if conflict arose the liege lord must be obeyed
In the 10th century claims of hereditary possession gradually became legally recognized
Vassals started to swear allegiance to the highest bitter
