Which type of stroke involves a blood clot?
Ischaemic stroke.
Which type of stroke involves bleeding into the brain?
Intracerebral haemorrhage.
Which type of stroke involves bleeding around the brain?
Subarachnoid haemorrhage.
What is the difference between a thrombotic occlusion and an embolic occlusion?
In a thrombotic occlusion the clot forms in the brain (the cerebral vessels) and in an embolic occlusion the clot forms distally to the brain but then travels to the brain.
What percentage of total oxygen consumption is attributed to cerebral metabolism?
20%.
Which fact about stroke is true: during stroke, every minute 120m neurons, 830billion synapses and 714km of myelinated fibres are destroyed, or is it every hour?
Every minute!
How many years does an ischaemic brain age every hour without treatment?
3.6years.
