lecture 9 B morpoloical WBC abnormalities Flashcards
both — and — are associated with morphologic abnomralities of neutropiles
hereditary and acquired
these abnormalities include both —
cytplasmic and nuclaer aberrations
nuclear abnormalities include— wile cytplasmic abnormalities include—
hypersementation, hyposegmentation/ various types of inclusions, hyperranular cytoplasm, hypogranular cytoplasm
acquired neutropile anomalies:
septicemia: 1) usually neutropiles ave 7-10 days in te BM to mature but in septicemia tis time is shortened so BM gets stimulated to produce neutrophils at a faster rate and therefore the neutrophils
have to come out of the B.M before they are completely mature. Thus the cytoplasm of
such cells contains more RNA and primary granules. The residual RNA occurs in small
islets knows as Dohle bodies. The primary granules which persisted in large numbers have been called by mistake
“toxic granules”, but these are in fact the promyelocyte granules which have persisted till
the late stage
also in more severe case enzymes from ranules are release and active paocytsos appens READ PDF
It is of practical importance to recognize the Pelger Huet Anomaly so that it is not
confused with
a sift to te left. These cells are fully mature cells that look
morphologically immature because they are not segmented or because they are
hyposegmented.
may Hegglin anomaly
inherited abnormality of granulocyte morphology, it is rare, and autosomal
dominant. It is characterized by large gray blue stainin inclusions in te cytoplasm of granulocytes and monocytes variable
leukopenia and thrombocytopenia and giant platelets containing a low no of granules.
most people with the may hegglin anomaly—
do not experinec clinical symptoms however some develop hemmerhogic propbelms of diffeent severity and may be at a higher risk of infection
the inclusuon of may hegglin anomaly are similar in appearance and composition to—. but like Dohle bodies, they seem to—
dohle bodies but they are larger and more discrete they may be round or spindle shaped and they may be found in a large percentage of cells, not only neutrophils./ be composed of mostly RNA apparently derived from RER look at pic page4
