Lecture 9: adaptive immunity Flashcards
1
Q
main features:
A
- Specificity
- Memory
- Tolerance
2
Q
T & B Lymphocytes:
A
T- and B-cells are highly specialised defender cells - different groups of cells are tailored to different germs. When your body is infected with a particular germ, only the T- and B-cells that recognise it will respond
3
Q
where do T & B Lymphocytes come from?
A
bone marrow (red)
4
Q
t lymphocytes:
A
cell-mediated immunity
5
Q
B cells:
A
antibody-mediated immunity
6
Q
major players in adaptive immunity :
A
- Lymphoid tissue e.g. lymph nodes
- Antigen – presenting cells (APC’s – terminology imprecise)
- Follicular dendritic cells
- T – lymphocytes
- B – lymphocytes
7
Q
APC’s
A
-Display fragments of invading pathogens on their surface
Present them to (other) immune system cells – especially T lymphocytes
-Fixed and free macrophages e.g. Kupffer cells, monocytes, microglia
-Epithelia and endothelia
- B lymphocytes
