Lecture 9 Flashcards

1
Q

What are the the 6 requirements of articulators that are mentioned in lecture?

A

1) Hold cast in correct horizontal and vertical position
2) Provide postive anterior vertical stop (Incisal guide pin)
3) Accept facebow transfer
4) allow mechanism to accept a third point of refrence from facebow transfer record.
5) Open and close hinge movement
6) Allow lateral and protrusive movement.

Q

What are the 5 other requirements mentioned on the second slide?

A

7) Adjustable horizontal and lateral guides (Some articulators)
8) Condylar elements as part of the lower frame and the condylar guides
9) support components should be of rigid construction
10) support components should be of rigid construction

Q

What are the limitation of articulators?

A

Mandibular movements are complex three dimensional space movements hand have the fourth dimension of timing.

  • Simulate elementary mandibular movement but not duplicate them
  • Instrument is only as good as the information programed and how well the operator understand the features.

Q

What is the arcon desgin in semi adjustable articulators?

A
  • Arcon design means conlylar spheres are attached to the lower member.
  • Mechanical fossae are attached to the upper member

Q

What are the limitations of Semiadjustable articulator?

A

No laterotrusive mobement of the working side
-possible horizontal ridge and groove pathway

-no lateral movement of the rotating working side condile possible buccl cusp working side interfereence

  • Also has a set intercondylar distance of 110 mm
  • No immediate shift
  • Distance from the condylar access effect arc of closure contacts
