lecture 9 Flashcards
what is flexibility?
ability to move a joint smoothly through full ROM
AROM
active range of motion (dynamic)
PROM
passive range of motion (static)
RROM
resistive range of motion
factors that limit flexibility
bony structures, tissue approximation, excessive fat, muscle and tendon lengths, connective tissue, scarring and contractures, skin, neural tissue tightness, temp of tissue
what is ballistic?
bouncing movement in which repetitive contractions of agonist work to stretch antagonist
what is static?
passive stretching, go to point of pain and hold for 30s
what is dynamic?
resembles sport specific movements (high knees, etc.)
what is PNF?
proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation- partner needed (contract/relax)
what do you do if you are stretching a neural structure?
modify stretch to eliminate pain (bend knee, etc)
what is the most important thing to do before stretching?
warm up
variety of modalities
ice, heat, electrical stim, ultrasound, massage, traction
what to focus on with modalities?
patient position, stabilization of injured area and actual modality (don’t want ice bag falling off so wrap it on)
write all specific treatments in…..
SOAP notes
