Lecture 8 - Trauma from Occlusion Flashcards
Primary occlusal trauma
excessive forces on a normal periodontium
Secondary occlusal trauma
normal or excessive forces on a weakened periodontium.
Glickman’s concept
sites which are exposed to abnormal occlusal force will develop angular angular bony defects and infrabony pockets.
pocketing is caused by
bacteria (not occlusal trauma)
trauma from occlusion does or does not lead to pocketing/periodontitis?
NO
Gingival inflammation can’t have ortho treatment because
that txt will lead to accelerated bone loss. Thus, ortho pts should have no gingival inflammation
If you have trauma from occlusion can still do
GTR
If a person has periodontits and trauma from occlusion what do you treat first
first do SRP—>adjust occlusion
