A
Structure between hoof wall and coffin bone. Keeping the coffin bone in place.

Laminitis causes:
A
Colic
Untreated infections
Nutrition (starch>toxic in bloodstream>disrupted bloodflow>causing the inflammation)

Recognizing laminitis
A
- Temperature of the hoof
- Pounding digital pulse (normally almost no pulse)
- Hoof tester (pressure)
- Looks like walking in eggshells
- Lift pressure of front toes by stretching out
- Fever

Laminitis
A
Inflammation of the laminae, allowing the coffin bone to sink.
Extremely painful

Prevent laminitis
A
- Pasture turnout (high sugar), limit time or seize
- Avoid high sugar and starch feeds (in grains)
- Obese horses
- Base feed roughage
