Lecture 8: Shoulder Flashcards
Pain def
pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience, associated with actual or potential tissue damage or described in terms of such damage.
-cant always find tissue damage but doenst mean patient isn’t suffering
What are the 3 kinds of pain classification?
- Nociceptive- pain evoked by damage to somatic or visceral tissue e.g.
- Neurogenic/ Neuropathic- abnormal activity in nerves that transmit nociceptive pain (from nerve itself)
- Psychogenic: From influences in the subjects mind, such as memory, association with past events and malingering. (pain thats all in their head)
- The transduction of Pain
Tissue detected by free nerve endings in epithelial tissue of the body (skin) fibrous connective tissue (skeletal smooth muscle), only in the capsule of solid viscera and in the epithelium & muscular is of hollow viscera.
Can be stimulated chemically or mechanically:
A) Chemically- By H, K++, bradkinins, serotonin as release by damaged cells or inflammatory response to tissue damage.
b) mechanically- when collagenous tissue are stretched e.g. swell with haemorrhage or tumor- compression of free nerve endings woven into the lattice work of collagen?
