What do dialectical strategies focus on?
- teaching dialectical patterns like ‘both-and’ as oppose to ‘either-or’
- using metaphors
- playing the devils advocate
- finding the middle path
What do core strategies focus on?
- They focus on validation: acknowledging the patients perspective and finding the kernel of truth
- also on cheerleading: expressing encouragement, hope, praise
Chain Analysis
a core strategy: ‘an exhaustive blow-by-blow description of the chain of events leading up to and following the behaviour.
Stylistic Strategies 2 main focuses?
1) Reciprocal Communication
2) Irreverent Communication
3 parts of Emotion Regulation
1) Understanding and naming emotions
2) Changing unwanted emotions
3) Reducing Vulnerability to emotion mind
