Lecture 8 Flashcards

1
Q

The making of ethanol from starch-laden products (e.g., wheat or corn)

A
  • Step1–Raw material starch (from wheat or corn kernels) are ground in a hammer mill.
  • Step2–Convert starch to sugar using acids.
  • Step3–Yeast is added to ferment the sugars to ethanol.
  • Step4–The ethanol is separated from the mixture by distillation.
