Lecture 8 Flashcards
types of tactile ( touch ) receptors
Meissner : ( superficial )
Merkel : (superficial)
Parcinian: (deep)
Ruffini: (deep)
Pain and Temperature receptor
Free nerve ending
Pain: everywhere except for brain ( superficial )
A fiber : large and myelinated ( quick, sharp pain)
C fiber: axon smaller diameter, Unmyelinated
dull aching pain
Temperature : all of skin ( superficial)
Muscle receptor
Muscle spindle : located in muscle belly
Golgi tendon organs : muscle tendon
Extrafusal vs intrafusal muscle fiber
Intrafusal: part of mm spindel ( detect change in length )
extrafusal : skeletal muscle fiber: Muslce tension for movement
Muscle spindle
detect rate of change in length ( Dynamic) / normal length ( static)
1A afferent neuron ( static + dynamic )
Group 2 afferent neurons ( static)
Gorgi tendon organs
Muscle contract, tendon gets tighter
press down onto golgi tendon organ
detect amount of force being produced.
1B afferent ( sensory ) neuron
Intrafusal muscle fiber:
nuclear chain fiber : position (static)
Static nuclear bag fiber ( static
Dynamic nuclear bag fiber ( dynamic )
Alpha gamma co activation
innervate intrafusal fiber : tighten up muscle spindle and maintain sensitivity when the muscle is contracting (dual command)
Fire at the same time as alpha motor neuron when contracting
Meissner and pacinian
Fast adapting receptor
dynamic
more sensitive to change in stimulus
Markel and ruffini
slow adapting
static
always sensitive to presence of stimulus
Markel and ruffini
