Chapter 6 Flashcards
2 types of nervous system
- Central nervous system ( CNS)
- Peripheral Nervous System ( PNS)
Central nervous system
- Brain
- Spinal Cord
Cranial nerves
Peripheral Nervous System
- afferent division
- efferent division
Afferent division of PNS(sensory (input)
- Somatic Sensory ( senses)
- Visceral sensory (Organs)
- Special sensory ( vision, hearing, taste, in your head)
Efferent division of PNS ( Output/motor)
- somatic motor: alpha motor neuron
- Autonomic Motor: vital organs (heart, lungs) , digestive system
Sympathetic: fight or flight
Parasympathetic : rest /relax
Enteric ( digestive system)
Actions response to input
Cells of nervous system
Neurons : information transfer
conduct electrochemical impulses
respond to stimuli
Neuroglial cells: Both CNS/PNS
supportive functions
Neuron parts
Cell body
Dendrites
Axon hillock ( trigger zone)
Axon collaterals
axon terminal
3 different classification of Neurons
- Multipolar (trigger zone between cell body and axon terminal
- Bipolar ( special case , dendrites, common branch, cell body, then trigger zone
- Unipolar : somato sensory: dendrites trigger zone then axon the cell body then axon terminal .
Neuron
Single nerve cell
Nerve
Group of axons plus connective tissue wrapping and blood vessels
3 layers of connective tissue of nerve
Epineurium
Perineurium
Endoneurium
Different types of Neuroglial cells
- Astrocytes
- microglia
- Ependymal Cells
- Oligodendrocytes
5.Schwann cells
6.Satellite cells
Astrocytes
Important role in development
signal neuron where to go
structural support
Microglia
Part of immune system
clean up cellular debrief
infection/injury in nervous system
ependymal cells
Help produce ceribral spinal fluid
