it’s the shift from rural to urban areas

it’s when people in developed countries more from city –> rural areas
What are some of the centripetal (pull) forces in urban areas?

What are some of the centrifugal (push) forces in rural areas?
developing countries
there are 7 forces
1. lack of health facilities
2. poverty
3. poor quality of life
4. few jobs
5. poor education
6. lack of tech & infrastructure
7. no prospects
What are the causes for counter urbanization?
- increase car ownership
- preferring to live on the skirts
- working from home
- pollution + crime = unpleasant to live in the city
- retiring
- creation of parks
Why focus on urban health?
because it affects/ create:
urban poverty, pollution (inc.), road traffic injuries (inc.), and insufficient services & poor environment conditions in slums
What are the major challenges of urbanization?
- overcrowding
- air pollution
- water & sanitation issues
- increase of communicable disease
What are other urbanization challenges?
crime & violence
exposure to 2nd hand smoke
mental health & substance abuse
reduced access to health care - higher levels of inequality
social, cultural & economic exclusion
What are the social & env. determinants of urban health inequities?
- power, status & resources
- access to adequate housing
- access to the benefits of urban life
