Q

What does Southgate et al.’s (2007) study tell us about infants’ social understanding? How does it tell us this?

A

There may be some innate, implicit ability to understand the mental states of others.

When infants are asked what the puppet is thinking/where it might look, they are unable to respond accurately, yet measurements of their eye tracking suggest they do have an understanding - they are looking in the correct places.
