what are some of the main characteristics of salmonella enterica

A
  • its gram negative, non sporulating, facultative anaerobic motile rods.
  • they are mesophillic, optimum growth temperature between 35 degrees celsius and 37 degrees celsius, but generally have a growth range of 5-54 degrees.
  • easily killed by pasteurization
  • sensitive to pH
  • only pathgen directly referred to by name in the canadian food and drugs act
