Lecture 7: Development Of Neural Networks Flashcards
How many V interneurons are there?
Four: V0, V1, V2, V3
Where to the V interneurons project to?
V0 - contralaterally
V1 - locally on ipsilateral side
V2 - intersegmentally in the ipsilateral spinal cord
V3 - contralaterally
Which protein induces differentiation of the floor plate?
Sonic Hedgehog Protein (SHH).
Which protein is responsible for generating interneuron D1-D6 diversity in the dorsal half?
Bone morphogenic protein (BMP)
How are transcription factors controlled by SHH?
Due to their dorso-ventral placement they are exposed to different concentrations of SHH (coming from the ventral floor plate) which in turn determines which transcription factors are most prominent. This results in differing protein expression in different ventral interneurons.
Where are the projections of propriobulbar neurons confined to?
Confined within the medulla.
What is the marker that preBötC neurons specifically express?
NK1R
The precursor cells which preBötC cells originate from contain which transcription factor?
Dbx1
What else originates from Dbx1 containing precursor cells?
Locomotor interneurons that coordinate right-left activity in the spinal cord
What simple switch allows axons to cross the midline?
Attraction to repulsion!
Which receptor has a role in axons being attracted towards and across the midline?
The Robo3 receptor
