Lecture 4: Development of the Nervous System Flashcards
What does the neural crest give rise to?
The ganglions and nerves of the PNS and ANS.
What differentiates into the CNS?
The neural tube.
Once the neural crest cells migrate laterally, what do they form?
The sensory spinal ganglia.
Where do motor neurons of the spinal cord originate from?
The basal plates of the spinal cord. (Originate in and project out).
Which neurons of the spinal cord originate out and project in?
Sensory neurons.
In the dividing neuroepithelial cells of the neural tube, does the ventricular or marginal zone develop into white matter?
Marginal zone.
What are the roof and floor plates of the developing spinal cord?
Decussating nerve fibre bundles.
Where do glialblasts exclusively differentiate from?
The neuroepithelium of the neural tube.
What do the prosencephalon, mesencephalon, and rhombencephalon differentiate into, respectively?
Prosencephalon -> Forebrain
Mesencephalon -> Midbrain
Rhombencephalon -> Hindbrain
