What is the domestic public model?
Aka ideology of the 2 spheres: In some societies, the traits, activities, and roles “assigned” to masculinity or femininity tend to fall into 2 different spheres: The domestic and the public
What is the domestic sphere?
Describes the physical location and types of activities that take place in association with the home. Gendered feminine. Outside of economic realm, therefor unproductive
What is household labour for?
Satisfying the needs of family members, maintain needs of home and family possessions. Not included in GDP
What is Gross Domestic Product?
Market value of all goods and services produced in that country
What is the public sphere?
Political and economic activities that take place beyond the localized household unit. Paid labour means tasks are productive, and included in the GDP. Gendered masculine, and thus are predominantly important.
How did women get domestically oriented?
Due to the degree to which mothering and childcare tasks where associated. Woman and mother overlaps.
