Q

What are 2 types of famines?

A
  1. Environmental famines, which occur as a result of natural phenomena and hence lead to a lack of food being available or grown. Examples: lack of water, lack of food as a result of drought
  2. Political Famine, which can occur if wars or conflicts make it impossible for farmers to grow food or import it. Populations can flee because of war, thus leaving behind everything.

Q

How does famine relief logistics differ from ‘normal’ logistics?

A

Trade logistics revolves around meeting customer demands, minimizing costs and maximizing profits. On the other hand, humanitarian logistics aims to save lives, alleviate suffering and provide aid during disasters.
1. Different priorities - normal: maximizing profits for the business; humanitarian: meeting the basic needs of people affected by disasters
2. Goals: normal: generating profits; human.: provide sustainable aid and assistance to people affected by disasters
3. nature of their clients - n.: paying customers; h.: diverse groups, from beneficiaries to local governments, aid organizations and other stakeholders
4. H.: are more unpredictable & complex

Q

What do you think the future issues in logistics are?

A
  • possible problem of running out of oil that is necessary in transportations
  • we will have to figure out new kind of fuel which will be cheap and environmentally friendly
  • possibly there will be some environmental problems to deal with, or at least we will still be trying to better the environmental situation (making adjustments in all areas of international logistics as a result of increased environmental concerns worldwide)
  • implementing new cutting-the-edge technologies into the international logistics, like the technology used in cold chain monitoring; new ways to improve traceability, smart contracts eg automated payments..
  • improving the international transport management as it will be the competitive differentiator

Q

What is a Cold Chain Monitoring?

A

sensors on sensitive product can record temp, humidity, vibration oth other factors. When stored in blockchains they are permanent and tamperproof. Each member of blockchain will see this info
