What is the function of fibrin?

A

What are the 2 main factors in the coagulation cascade?

A

Thrombin and fibrin.

Thrombin activates fibrin from fibrinogen, sticks to things. Also helps activate platelets.

How does endothelium prevent spontaneous coagulation?

A

Has factors thrombomodulin, protein C, S that inhibits clotting. Changes thrombin from activator to inhibitor.

What is tPA, how does it work?

A

tPA is tissue plasminogen activator. It binds to fibrin to activate plasmin, which breaks down the fibrin.
