Lecture 6.4: Vascular pathology 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What is the function of fibrin?
A
To form a plug.
2
Q
What are the 2 main factors in the coagulation cascade?
A
Thrombin and fibrin.
Thrombin activates fibrin from fibrinogen, sticks to things. Also helps activate platelets.
3
Q
How does endothelium prevent spontaneous coagulation?
A
Has factors thrombomodulin, protein C, S that inhibits clotting. Changes thrombin from activator to inhibitor.
4
Q
What is tPA, how does it work?
A
tPA is tissue plasminogen activator. It binds to fibrin to activate plasmin, which breaks down the fibrin.
